Summary:

Ron Thomason has over 20 years of experience in maritime  security and counterterrorism planning and operations, and is a renowned specialist and educator in maritime counterterrorism. He has served for over fourteen years as a Governor of the Maritime Security Council.  Ron is a graduate of the UK National Maritime Security Training Program and the US Federal Law Enforcement Training Center's Seaport Security & Antiterrorism Program.

Ron served as an intelligence and security professional with the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and the US Army's Special Operations community. Following his government service, Ron served as the Fleet Security Supervisor for Princess Cruise, and Security Manager of Security Operations for Renaissance Cruises.


In 2004 Ron was appointed by the Department of Homeland Security to the US Coast Guard Area Maritime Security Committee for Southern Florida. Ron also serves as a designated maritime community representative to the international police organization INTERPOL, and the US State Department’s Office of the UNSCR 1540 Coordinator.

Professional Experience:

Mr. Thomason is a maritime security expert with over 30 years of experience in international maritime security operations.  He is a former intelligence officer with the Defense Intelligence Agency who also served as an intelligence, security, and civil affairs specialist for the US Army Special Operations community.  Mr. Thomason served as the Fleet Security Supervisor for Princess Cruises, and as the Security Manager for both Princess and Renaissance Cruise Lines, where he was responsible for the planning and successful implementation of preventive security programs for those companies’ fleets, passengers, and crews worldwide.  Mr. Thomason has also served as the Security Compliance Manager for Port Everglades; Vice President for Maritime Security with TranSystems; and, Group Vice President with SeaSecure and Mobius Security.


Mr. Thomason assisted in the creation of the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 and advised FLETC in the development of their curricula for training maritime security professionals. 

Mr. Thomason has served as an adjunct instructor for the US Federal Law Enforcement Training Center’s Seaport Security & Antiterrorism Training Program (SSATP); and, in 2003 was selected to become a Visiting Instructor at the US Coast Guard's Yorktown Training Center in Maritime Security and Regulatory Compliance.  He has also taught maritime security regulatory compliance to senior-level foreign government and industry personnel in the America’s, Africa, and Asia.

One of his more significant accomplishment was his managing of the first International Conference on Maritime Counterterrorism.  


Given the dynamic nature of the regulatory requirements for trade and transportation security, Mr. Thomason works diligently to remain well versed in the pertinent state, federal, and international regulations that govern the maritime sector.  He successfully manages a wide variety of critical projects, from port and vessel security threat, vulnerability, and risk assessments to port and vessel security plans, and security training, drills, and exercise programs.  Mr. Thomason has conducted security vulnerability assessments at more than 100 ports in North and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
